A defiant Kenyan man who put an LGBTQ gay pride flag atop the Lenana Peak on Mt Kenya before it was later removed is vowing to return to the peak and do it again.

The man identified as @juelz_loverl on Twitter planted the rainbow flag atop the iconic mountain back in 2019 but it was removed by group of Kikuyu traditionalists last weekend.

The man is vowing to scale up one of the three peaks of Mt Kenya together with his friend known as Alex to plant another flag rubbishing the decision by the group to remove it.

“In 2019 we (Alex and I) put the (LGBTQ) flag up on Mt. Kenya. All this nonsense of it being taken down, I've decided 2023 I am going back up Mt. Kenya to put up the flag!” he posted on Twitter.

Last weekend, the “Booi wa Kirira Kia Mugikuyu” group of 10 fundraised for a month for cash to scale the iconic mountain to complete their mission of removing the rainbow flag.

The climbers then climbed the mountain on April 7, 2023 and removed the flag then returned down with it on April 9 and torched it at Naromoru in Kieni, Nyeri County.

The cultural group said their action and rites Kikuyu conducted thereafter would cleanse Mt Kenya, where their mythical god, Mwene Nyaga, resides.

The move by the duo to plant the LGBTQ community flag atop Mt Kenya has elicited heated and varied debate among Kenyans with a section supporting it while majority opposed it.
