One person has been confirmed dead during the anti-government demonstrations near Patels Flats in Kisumu's Kondele area.

The person whose identity is yet to be established was shot when police and the demonstrators were locked in an ugly clash.

Trouble is reported to have started when police tried to restrict a group of demonstrators from marching from the bus stage to the Kisumu CBD.

That was a move that demonstrators did not take kindly and started hurling stones at the police officers who had blocked them from marching to the CBD.

Upon realising they were under siege, the police opened fire to scare and disperse the irate protestors and that is when one bullet reportedly hit the deceased.

The shooting incident aggravated the situation as the protestors turned against the police with their full force.

Police later moved the body of the deceased to the mortuary.

“Police just dumped the body here without recording anything, but it has a gunshot. Hopefully, they will return," a mortuary attendant said.
