Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has fired his entire legal team in the Sh10 million bribery case involving Web Tribe.

Consequently, a Nairobi court has given his former advocates just 48 hours to hand over all documentary evidence given to them by the State to Sonko’s new legal team.

The directive was issued on Wednesday when the impeached county boss appeared before Anti-corruption Magistrate Douglas Ogoti Ogoti.

Sonko has appointed lawyers John Khaminwa, Assa Nyakundi and Wilfred Nyamu to replace the old legal team of Cecil Miller and George Kithi in representing him in the bribery case.

In the case, Sonko is accused of demanding a Sh10 million bribe from Web Tribe Ltd through ROG Security Limited to facilitate payments to the company by Nairobi County Government.

Web Tribe had been hired six year ago by City Hall to collect revenue on its behalf with the former governor said to have committed the offence between January 10 and 19 in 2019.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has lined up 28 witnesses in the bribery case even as it has been proceeding with 10 protected witnessed having already testified.

Sonko's fired lawyers will now have to hand over to the new team all witness statements and documentary evidence which prosecution will rely on to prosecute the case against him.

He has at the same time filed a petition seeking Ogoti’s withdrawal from the case.
