President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed his deputy William Ruto and the hustler vs dynasty narrative that he has been pushing as he seeks to replace his boss in the 2022 general election.
Speaking at Sagana State Lodge, Nyeri County on Saturday while meeting a delegation of more than 5,000 leaders from Central Kenya, he said no one in Kenya chooses where to be born.
“Then you hear them call me dynasty just because I was born by Kenyatta. Who chooses where he wants to be born? Tell them to stop insulting me, they will know where votes come from next year,” Kenya said in remarks targeted at Ruto.
He told residents of Mt Kenya region that politicians were duping them with handouts.
“You see them here come to tell you, you have been neglected and throw some few coins your way to hoodwink you, yet it’s the same money they have looted your resources. Take that money when it comes, but don’t be blinded or misled,” the president added.

He was responding to criticism by 41 Mt Kenya MPs who wrote a stinging open letter accusing him of mismanaging the economy, the country and rooting for a Raila Odinga presidency.
The Head of State reiterated that politicians now opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), led by the Deputy President, had been involved in the process right from the beginning.
Kenyatta also accused his political opponents of taking credit for his development projects.
“You hear them from top of the vehicles saying what they have done; roads, water, education as if such work is done from those rallies. That work is done from state house,” he said.
He urged residents of his political backyard to throw their weight behind the BBI as it will safeguard their interests irrespective of who will be elected president in the future.
“BBI is about allocating more resources to the grassroots. Kenyans should not be fooled by a section of politicians opposed to the document to further their selfish interests at the expense of the common good," Kenyatta added.
