Detectives have arrested six suspects in connection to the manufacture of counterfeit Kenya Revenue Authority stamps as the crackdown on counterfeit products in the Kenyan market intensifies.


The six suspects namely Peter Mburu, James Kigera, Frankline M’Mburia, Mary Wanjiku, Titus Ndegwa and Jane Muthoni were rounded up on Tuesday in different parts of Nairobi County.

During the Tuesday swoop, which was part of the authority’s crackdown on counterfeit items dubbed ‘Operation Uchumi’ detectives recovered counterfeit KRA, Uganda Revenue Authority and Tanzania Revenue Authority stamps too.

According to police, they also confiscated a pistol and 9 rounds of ammunition from one suspect named Titus Ndegwa who is said t be a civilian firearm holder when he was arrested from his Thindigua residence in Kiambu County.

Police are currently holding the suspects at Muthaiga Police Station where they are being processed before they are arraigned.

The arrest of the six suspects shows President William Ruto’s administration is not relenting on its fight against counterfeit products flooding the markets exposing Kenyans to risks and tax evasion.
