The 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results are out.

The Education Minister Ezekiel Machogu released the KCPE results on Wednesday at Mtihani House in Nairobi.

The top students in the 2022 KCPE exams Otieno Lewis Owino from St Peter's Mumias boys primary and Robinson Makokha from Christ The King primary school in Bungoma scored 431 marks.

Speaking during the KCPE exam results announcement, Machogu noted an improvement in the overall performance of the 2022 KCPE exam from the previous one.

"In the overall performance of the 2022 KCPE examination, the overall performance improved compared to that of 2021. The mark of the highest candidate rose four points from 428 to 431 in 2022," Machogu said.

According to Machogu, over half of the students who sat for the 2022 KCPE exams scored between 200 and 299 marks.

"The data analysis saw that more than half of all the candidates who sat the examination that is 619,593 (50.2 per cent) scored between 200 and 299 marks as compared to 578,106 (47.1 per cent) scored between the same in 2022," Machogu said.

"Additionally 1,170 candidates scored between 1 and 99 marks in 2021 and it has gone down to only 724 in 2022."

The CS expressed the government's commendation to the class of 2022 for exemplary performance despite facing several challenges including the Covid-19 pandemic, the general elections and a disrupted school calendar.

"I wish to particularly single out the 2022 KCPE cohort which was in Std 6 when COVID-19 hit the country and only assumed their classes upon reopening of schools in 2021. And in just 23 months they have been able to cover three school calendar years. This is astonishingly incredible," the CS said.

The Education ministry guaranteed all the students will secure admission to Form 1 under the 100 per cent policy.

Machogu also said he has formed a committee to develop guidelines to ensure a seamless transition of grade six learners to junior secondary school.
