Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has announced that he will not vie for the coveted chairmanship of the Council of Governors in the council elections slated for January 29.
Kibwana says he wants to channel all his energies to his presidential bid in the 2022 general election as he seeks the backing of Kongamano La Mageuzi ( KLM) for the top seat after falling out with his Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
"I will not be a candidate for Council of Governors elections. As a 2022 presidential candidate, I have been advised by my team that serving in the next CoG executive can constitute a conflict of interest," Kibwana announced on Tuesday.
He instead thanked his fellow governors in the council for electing him to serve as Chief Whip.
I will not be a candidate for Council of Governors elections. As a 2022 Presidential Candidate, I have been advised by my Team that serving in the next CoG executive can constitute a conflict of interest. I thank my colleagues for the opportunity to serve as Chief Whip.

The CoG chair post is the link between the Executive and the 47 county governments and the voice of the ‘presidents’ of the devolved units and comes with its fair share of lucrative perks.
