The new Attorney-General Justin Muturi has officially taken over from his predecessor Kihara Kariuki at Sheria House, a day after being sworn in.

Kariuki officially handed over to Muturi on Friday morning in a small ceremony at Sheria House.

“This morning I had the pleasure and honour to officially take over my new mandate as the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya from the outgoing AG Kihara Kariuki at Sheria House,” Muturi said.

Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, Muturi thanked Kariuki for his exemplary work during his tenure.

He also thanked the members of staff for their warm reception.

“I thanked the outgoing AG for his exemplary service at the office of the Attorney General which made it reach great heights. I also took the opportunity to thank the staff for the warm welcome,” Muturi said.

“I look forward to working with them in making the office achieve more for the benefit of all Kenyans and the government.”

Muturi also received kind words from the outgoing Kariuki as he handed over the office to him, which he reciprocated by wishing Kariuki well in his future endeavours.

“I wish him well in her future endeavours,” the new AG said.

Muturi pledged to represent the State in legal proceedings, be the legal adviser to each government department and represent the public in all legal proceedings.

“I guarantee to represent the State in legal proceedings. I will be the legal adviser to each Government Department and certain public bodies,” Muturi said.

“I promise to be a representative of the public in all legal proceedings for the enforcement of law and the assertion or protection of public rights.”

Before his current position, Muturi served as the seventh speaker for the National Assembly from 2013 to 2022.

He also served in the judiciary as a principal magistrate between 1982 and 1997 before retiring from judicial service.
