Embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has told off Meru County MCAs saying she will not be intimidated into becoming a thief.

Kawira said that on Monday at Meru County Government offices where she flagged off medicine worth millions of shillings from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to Meru Level 5 Hospital and 4 other hospitals in Meru.

The governor said she was ready to field questions from the MCAs and fund their projects; but inasmuch as they provide proper documentation.

“Let the speaker bring the documents that shows the amount of money you want. Even if it is Sh200,000 or Sh200 million, I am ready to give you provided it is anchored in the law. I must have a written document, something I can show,” Kawira said.

Kawira said she will not entertain any undocumented deals with the Meru County Assembly because they might turn around and deny the same.

She insisted on following the law and stood firm on her ground that she will not be intimidated into pilfering the county government’s resources.

“We have met at my home for dinner and agreed on the ward fund but you have denied it. We met in Mombasa, you denied. We met with the speaker and at the grassroots but you have denied. Now come with something that I can present before people, cabinet and other officers,” she said.

“We must follow the law, even if you make numerous allegations, Mama’s government is alert. I am not ready to pocket even a single coin that belongs to Mwananchi. I will not be intimidated to be a thief.”

Kawira also took on the MCAs' claim that she is never available whenever they need to speak to her and told them to seek an audience with the Deputy Governor if she is not accessible.

The Governor and the MCAs have been embroiled in a row over her leadership approaches.

The MCAs accused her of disregarding their demands and refusing to grace their requests to have discussions.

On Mashujaa Day, a day after the MCAs walked out on her during what would have been the official opening of the county assembly, Kawira extended an olive branch to the MCAs and opened her doors to them while urging them to come together and work for the people of Meru.
