Former Malindi MP has offered herself a beacon of hope for Kenyans who scored D or D-minus grades in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.

Jumwa who was President William Ruto’s choice for the Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action Cabinet Secretary on Tuesday was among the nominees who underwent the vetting process conducted by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointment.

She declared herself the representative and a role model of Kenyans who scored low grades in their secondary school final exams.

Jumwa was responding to a question which was raised by the Pokot South MP David Pkosing who was curious to know how she got a university degree despite her getting a D-minus grade in her KCSE.

"I represent many who today are looking at Aisha Jumwa as a role model in that you can have a D or D- and get somewhere in life," Jumwa said.

She revealed she dropped out of school at Form two but enrolled herself back in order to become a better servant of society.

"It wasn't easy for me to score those marks you are saying because I had to take myself to class after dropping in Form Two. I struggled as a private candidate but I took it as a challenge that I had to be better and serve the society better," she said.

The former MP said it was not fair to judge her ability to become a CS by her academic background while noting Ruto did his due diligence before deeming her fit for the position.

"So I am not even shy because it is in the public domain but I think that should not be used to judge Aisha Jumwa on sitting in the Cabinet," Jumwa said.

“I think the person who nominated me to this position did his due diligence and saw that I am fit if approved by Parliament.”

Jumwa claimed her journey has been an inspiration to many Kenyans who did not perform well in school to find success in other career paths instead of focusing on their perceived shortcomings.
