The Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government has issued a statement reminding Kenyans about phasing out of the old-generation passport.

The ministry issued a statement on Monday reminding Kenyans that the deadline for phasing out the old-generation passport is November 30, 2022.

“The Directorate of Immigration Services, wishes to remind the general public that the deadline for phasing out of the old generation Kenya passport is 30th November 2022,” the statement read.

According to the statement, Kenya will migrate fully to using the new East African Community (EAC) Biometric e-passport once the old one has been phased out.

“Kenya will migrate fully to using the new East African Community Biometric e-passport on 1st December 2022,” the statement read.

However, renewal/replacement of the old generation Kenya passport will continue normally in all passport application centres locally, and in Kenyan missions abroad after the deadline.

This is the second time within a month the ministry is making the call for Kenyans to renew their passports ahead of the deadline.

About three weeks ago, the Director-General Directorate of Immigration Services Alexander Muteshi released a statement announcing the deadline for migration to the new EAC biometric e-passport.

The statement was pursuant to the decision of the EAC Council of Ministers meeting, which was held in Arusha in November 2021.

“Pursuant to the decision by EAC Council of Minister's meeting held in Arusha from 22nd to 29th November 2021, the deadline for phasing out of the old generation passport for all EAC member States is November 2022.,” the statement read in part.

“In line with this decision, the Directorate of Immigration Services wishes to inform the general public that Kenya is bound to migrate fully to the new East African Community biometric e-passport by 30th November 2022.”
