A contingent of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and regular police on Thursday afternoon broke into the home of former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s home under an unclear circumstance.
Reports reaching Swala Nyeti indicate that the more than 15 officers broke the gate at Malala’s Lurambi Milimani home and were trying to break the doors to gain entry and arrest the Kenya Kwanza alliance politician.
The reasons behind the actions by the officers remains unclear, with his lawyer terming it political after Malala lost his bid to become the new Kakamega Governor in the recent poll.

“Unfortunately, at this point, we’re also a bit in the dark. We’re waiting to see why they are breaking into the house. I have not seen any warrant of arrest, all we are sure of is the fact that this arises from the elections that were carried out, which we feel has a been a bit unfair,” said Malala’s lawyer.
But a police officer at the scene says Malala is being sought to record a statement over an assault case after reportedly refusing to respond to summons to appear at the police station.

Malala's mother and father, who arrived at the scene, accused the police and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya of unfairly targeting their son over area politics.
The politician, who sought the governorship on an Amani National Congress (ANC) party ticket, streamed the unfolding events live on his Facebook page while holed up in his house.
