The outgoing Embu Governor Martin Wambora was conspicuously missing from the swearing-in ceremony of his successor Cecily Mbarire.
Mbarire and her deputy Justus Kinyua Mugo were sworn into office on Thursday at Embu University.
Wambora whose seat remained empty throughout the entire ceremony is yet to offer any explanations or reasons for his absence from the ceremony, which acted as the official handing-over exercise.
According to the team that was charged with organising the event, Wambora was expected to be in attendance.

Wambora has served Embu County for two terms which were troubled, and he narrowly survived impeachment attempts.
His administration has been accused of corruption and failure to deliver on development projects.
After taking the oath of office, Mbarire gave her maiden speech in which she blamed the previous county administration for the county’s failure in achieving its development goals.
"It is regrettable that development in the county has not been achieved to the expectations of the locals in our county. 10 years down the line we have received billions in the county but the administration which has been in place has failed our people," Mbarire said.
She pledged to revive the health sector, which she said was ailing because of poor leadership
"Our hospitals have no medicine, this will come to an end under my leadership," she said.
Mbarire also swore to seal all the loopholes used to pilfer public resources in Embu county.
