The Kenya Kwanza Alliance has nominated Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly.

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi made the announcement on Saturday during a Kenya Kwanza meeting held in Karen, Nairobi.

According to Mudavadi, the coalition principals unanimously agreed to pick Wetangula for the position since it was entrenched in the pre-election agreement.

“I have the singular honour and privilege on behalf of Kenya Kwanza to announce that we have unanimously agreed that the Speaker nominee for the National Assembly for the Kenya Kwanza coalition shall be Moses Masika Wetangula, Papa wa Roma,” Mudavadi said.

Wetangula successfully defended his senate seat in the recent election and garnered the majority of elective seats in Bungoma which is his own backyard.

In the Kenya Kwanza Alliance pre-election agreement, Wetangula was promised the position of the Speaker of the National Assembly while Mudavadi was promised the position of the Prime Cabinet Secretary if their faction won the election.

On Monday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declared William Ruto the winner of the election, an announcement that a section of IEBC commissioners has disputed and Ruto’s chief opponent in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition Raila Odinga.

Odinga dismissed Chebukati’s pronouncements as null and void as he seeks legal redress because he felt the election results did not reflect the truth.
