American singer with Senegalese roots Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam alias Akon has sent his congratulatory message to president-elect William Ruto following the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati’s announcement on Monday that he won the election.
Akon took to his Instagram account to offer his message to Ruto whom he referred to as his brother in the post
"Congratulations to my dear brother William Ruto as he is declared winner of Presidential Election in Kenya," Akon wrote.
He accompanied his message with a photograph of the president-elect and another one of his supporters carrying his campaign placard.
Akon is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur who rose to fame in 2004 following the release of his first single entitled ‘Locked Up’.
His album entitled ‘Konvicted’ received three Grammy Award nominations for Best Contemporary R&B Album, and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Smack That" (featuring Eminem) and "I Wanna Love You" (featuring Snoop Dogg).
He is also the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.
Akon is also the founder of two record labels namely Konvict Muzik and KonLive.
He is also the brain behind ‘Akon Lighting Africa’ in 2014, a project which provides electricity in 15 countries of Africa.
