A petrol tanker has overturned on the Thika Superhighway near Roysambu spilling its contents on the road.

Police officers have cordoned off that section of the road from motorists and curious members of the public.

Fire Brigade trucks from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and General Service Unit (GSU) officers have already arrived at the scene and efforts are underway to clean up the spillage.

Motorists headed towards the Nairobi City Centre are advised to use alternative routes to avoid getting caught up in a traffic snarl-up.

Another lorry believed to have been involved in the accident has also overturned just a few meters away from the petrol tanker.

No injuries have been reported yet from the incident.
