The Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Collins Oyuu has urged teachers to rally their support behind the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Oyuu revealed that while speaking at Siaya Central Primary school where he presided over the 37th Siaya Branch annual general meeting.

The KNUT Secretary-General also disclosed that Raila calls him every fortnight to know the position of the teachers in the August election matter.

“Raila calls me every two weeks to inquire about who the teachers are voting for. I assure him always that teachers are behind him,” Oyuu said.

Oyuu urged the teachers to support Raila, since he has a plan to employ all 114,000 qualified teachers who are currently out of employment.

The teachers who were in attendance responded by acclamation to Oyuu’s assertions.

Oyuu’s remarks reiterated Raila’s pledge to employ all trained teachers within the shortest time possible during the launch of Azimio’s manifesto.

“We welcome his promise and pray that it comes to pass and those teachers be properly remunerated,” Oyuu said.

The KNUT official also castigated the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto and accused him of confusing teachers and giving empty promises.

“Choose one. Don’t confuse us as teachers with your hybrid system, which cannot work in this country,” Oyuu said.

Oyuu thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for implementing the 12 per cent increment for the low-wage earners saying it showed the government is keen on improving the economy.
