The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has contributed significantly to the tough economic times being experienced in the country.

This is according to the Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna.

Oguna was speaking while touring RIVATEX in Eldoret on Tuesday where he said the government is doing everything possible to cushion Kenyans against the heavy burden being caused by the high fuel prices.

"It is true that the cost of living has gone high. But it is not the government's wish. We have to understand there are external factors contributing to this. For instance, the war between Russia and Ukraine is affecting us in one way or the other. The price of fuel has gone high because where the fuel is coming from the prices have also gone high," Oguna said.

Oguna also said Kenya enjoys the lowest prices of fuel even amid incessant public outcry courtesy of the government fuel subsidy.

"At the moment, the fuel subsidy is still there to cushion Kenyans. If you compare with other neighbouring countries, Kenya is the one with the lowest prices of fuel because of the subsidy," Oguna said.

He urged Kenyans not to focus on unfinished projects under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure because they are only a few remain incomplete because of tender complications.

Oguna also encouraged the youth to take up farming activities instead of relying only on white-collar job opportunities.
