UDA Presidential candidate William Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua was on Thursday heckled as he campaigned for his Kenya Kwanza Coalition in Githunguri, Kiambu County.

Gachagua had a tough time calming the crowds after he attacked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

A section of the crowd, who could hear none of it, expressed their displeasure with his attacks on the duo and accused him of disrespecting the president and Raila.

A section of those in attendance shouted Gachagua down as he commenced his address and drowned his speech with slogans in support of Uhuru, Raila and the Azimio coalition party.

Ruto’s running mate, who has found himself in trouble in the past weeks over his controversial remarks, pointed an accusing finger at Jubilee for his Githunguri troubles.


The section of the crowd also chanted slogans in support of Raila’s running mate Martha Karua to the ire of Gachagua who put on a brave face.

"If you have been sent by Raila and Martha here go and organize your own meeting; this is an UDA rally,” Gachagua charged.

He was, however, forced to cut short his rally and proceeded to Ruiru for another UDA rally.

He was accompanied by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, who is also the UDA governor candidate, Senate candidate Karungo wa Thangwa and Ruiru MP King'ara among others.


Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and Chama cha Kazi leader Moses Kuria skipped the rally after the verbal altercation that rocked a Kenya Kwanza in Kiambu on Wednesday.

Trouble started during the Wednesday rally after Wamatangi campaigned for a six-piece voting pattern for UDA in Kiambu, remarks that did not go down well with Kabogo and Kuria.
