Interior PS Karanja Kibicho revealed that the 2022 Madaraka Day will cost the Kenyan taxpayer approximately Sh70 million.

Kibicho revealed that while he was speaking during an interview in a local media station on Tuesday.


According to Kibicho, the ceremony will cost much lower compared to the others in the past, as the largest portion of the amount has been budgeted to pay performers who will entertain guests at the event.

The event being held in the newly constructed and renovated Uhuru Gardens means the budget did not include any development of the venue.

“Tomorrow is cheap we are not doing any infrastructure development. Here is more of paying alliances to the people who are coming to sing and perform. It will roughly be between Ksh. 60 and 70 million,” Kibicho said.

Kibicho also revealed, as it has been witnessed that the Wednesday Madaraka Day celebrations were heavy on the display of Kenya’s military muscle.


This is to assure citizens that their military is ready to protect them against any aggression.

Kibicho also said it is the best way the KDF wished to bid the Commander-In-Chief, President Uhuru Kenyatta whose tenure as the president to a close.

"Tomorrow will be a bit different because it will be a little heavy on military display. You must show your citizens that you are ready to protect them against any aggression and that is why you see in any of these celebrations there is a lot of showcasing of military powers," the PS said.


“We will also be showcasing military hardware because the KDF needs to say goodbye to the Commander-in-Chief because it will probably be the last day he will conduct a national day.”

Kibicho said about 30,000 Kenyans are expected to attend the event as all were welcome.
