A man is fighting for his dear life in Murang’a County after consuming an alcoholic drink laced with an unknown substance courtesy of a female companion which left him unconscious.

The man who works at the Ministry of Interior had walked into Small Villa Gardens at Kenol on Saturday evening in the company of that woman with whom they spent the evening having drinks and making merry.

Little did the men know the woman had plotted to empty his bank accounts.

Later in the night, at around 11 pm, the man passed out and his female company collected all his belongings, including his ATM cards, Identity Card and mobile phone.

This move alarmed the servers at the establishment who alerted their manager about the development. The manager also called the Commanding Officer at the Kenol Police Station who responded swiftly.

The man was quickly rushed to the hospital in critical condition and the woman 37-year-old woman then identified as Alice Wangechi was also apprehended and booked at the Kenol Police Station.

Wangechi was arrested on charges of stupefying the man and being in illegal possession of the man’s documents which were recovered from her.

Thanks to the quick response by the bar attendants, the man would have never known what hit him.

Police lauded the staff at Small Villa for their noble action, quick reaction and vigilance that saved a man's life and his money.

“As we appreciate the quick action by staff at Small Villa, other bar owners are asked to be on high alert and notify police officers immediately they notice such peculiarities at their business premises,” the police said.

The incident comes after an expose about women who spike men’s drinks and steal from them.

Members of the public, especially those in the rural areas have been cautioned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) against an influx of such unscrupulous women in the rural areas after fleeing the urban areas because of beefed up security.
