Popular upmarket club the Alchemist Club has closed down after a public backlash over a recent incident that happened at the establishment.

Alchemist Bar issued a statement on the state of affairs in which it said it is closing down to allow a thorough investigation to be conducted by the Nairobi County Government.

“After careful consultation with Nairobi County Government, The Alchemist has agreed to close its doors while a thorough investigation is conducted over the next few days,” the statement read in part.

The Nairobi County Government investigation will entail reviewing of the viral video footage of the incident, reviews of interviews with individuals who were present during the incident, interviews with regular revellers, interviews with third party personnel and a review of the establishment’s policy.

After the investigation, the Nairobi County Government will advise Alchemist Club on the next course of action.

“Based on the results of this investigation, Nairobi County Government will advise on the next steps and procedures. We welcome this investigation and we will wait for their results,” Alchemist said.


Members of the public who came across the footage termed the treatment as racial discrimination, and ever since the video footage surfaced, many people have been sharing their similar experiences at the establishment.
