Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has said residents of Mombasa have already settled for Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Nassir as the next governor for Mombasa.

Joho was speaking on Monday after attending Eid-ul-Fitr prayers where he also added that Wiper Party’s decision to field former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will not bear any fruits.

Joho said the region wanted a leader who can unite the people of Mombasa and do better than the current administration.

“We want a leader who can easily unite the people of Mombasa and do even better than the current administration, which I lead. That person is Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir,” Joho said.

Joho’s remarks come after the Wiper party gave Sonko a direct ticket to vie for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, ruffling feathers of interested parties.

Abdulswamad, who also attended the same event took a swipe at Sonko stating there was no place for political outcasts in Mombasa.

He also said the ODM party will go full throttle to realise wins in the entire county and all ODM candidates will beat their opponents hands down in the August elections.

“Let them stop such wishful thinking. We will go full throttle to ensure the ODM party keeps all elective seats in Mombasa County,” Abdulswamad said.

The Mombasa gubernatorial seat will be among the hottest contested seats featuring ODM’s Nassir, UDA’s Hassan Omar, Wiper party’s Sonko, Awiti Bolo and William Kingi.
