The governor for Nairobi County Anne Kananu has stepped dropped out of the Nairobi gubernatorial race in favour of Polycarp Igathe.
Kananu announce her stepping down during a press conference held at her City Hall office on Wednesday where she called upon the residents of Nairobi to support Igathe, saying Nairobi would be safe in his hands.
“I want to tell all Nairobians that you are safe under Igathe,” Kananu said.
Kananu cautioned aspirants who were seeking the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition ticket for the Nairobi governor’s seat against running on independent tickets as that would weaken the coalition.
Those in Azimio thinking of going independent, that won't help us,” Kananu said.

Kananu pledged to campaign for Azimio at the grass-root level together with other coalition members.
“We will campaign together and we will also get to the grass-root level together,” she assured.
She also promises that the pending projects that were initiated by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will be completed by Igathe.
"Wherever we have left it with NMS, we will complete with Igathe," Kananu said
Kananu’s move to step down comes barely a week after the coalition unveiled Igathe and Philip Kaloki its team for the Nairobi County ticket.
