Former President Emilio Mwai Kibaki is dead.
Kibaki, who served as the third President of Kenya from December 2002 to April 2013, died at the age of 90 in Nairobi.
His death was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday noon as he lauded his predecessor for his leadership and contribution to the country’s economic development.

"Mwai Kibaki will forever be remembered as a gentleman in Kenyan politics, a brilliant debater," said Uhuru in his statement read at State House Nairobi.
President Kenyatta announced that the late Kibaki will be accorded a state funeral with full military honours with flags countrywide expected to fly at half-mast in his remembrance.
"As a leading figure in Kenya's post-independence history, his excellency Mwai Kibaki earned the abiding respect and affection of the people of this nation and other nations throughout the world," Uhuru added.
The former president was born in 1931 in Othaya, Nyeri County.
