Two women have been charged in court with stealing an infant in Nairobi's Kayole estate.
The suspects identified as Lydia Wanjiku Maina and Felista Wairimu Kabumbi were charged with three counts before the magistrate Wendy Micheni.
The two are accused of conspiracy to steal an infant from its parent on March 15, 2022.
The prosecution told the court that the child was found with Felista at Kenyatta National Hospital where she had taken the infant for treatment.
It was her inconsistency and inability to provide the infant’s medical history that raised the hospital’s suspicion about Felista.

The hospital opted to conduct a medical check-up on Felista which revealed that she had not given birth to the infant as she had alleged and as per the bogus birth certificate she produces which showed March 18, 2022, as the child’s date of birth.
The hospital alerted the authorities who swung into action immediately and arrested Felista.
Upon further probing, Felista confessed to having bought the baby from Lydia on March 22, 2022.
The court released the two women on a Sh500,000 cash bail after they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
