The Board of Directors of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has appointed Dr Ezekiel Mutua, MBS, as its Chief Executive Officer,

Mutua’s appointment was effective on March 25, 2022. His appointment follows rigorous competitive interviews in which he emerged top among the candidates who were interviewed for the position.

According to MCSK Mutua brings a great wealth of experience in leadership, media and communications, having served in various top leadership positions, both in the public and private sectors.

Mutua took to his social media accounts to accept his appointment. He expressed his gratitude to the CEO of MCSK and happiness to rejoin the creative industry.

“I have received with profound gratitude the news of my appointment to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Happy to rejoin the creative industry, this time not as a regulator, but as a promoter and defender of the rights of musicians,” Mutua said. 

Mutua has also pledged to work to make music profitable and meaningful to Kenyan musicians. He has also promised to fight and defend their rights.

“To all Kenyan musicians my message is simple: I will work for you and with you to make music profitable and meaningful. I will fight for you, defend your rights and put conversations about music at the front table like I did with film,” he said.

Mutua has served on several boards of State Corporations in Kenya, including the Kenya Copyright Board, the Media Council of Kenya, the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat, the Brand Kenya Board and the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

He has also served as Secretary-General of Kenya Union of Journalists (2001-2007), Director of Information & Public Communications (2007 2011), Information Secretary (2011-2015) and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board (2015-2021).
