President Uhuru Kenyatta has launched a new Level 6 Mama Margaret Kenyatta Children Hospital on Friday in Mathare North, Ruaraka Constituency.
The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) revived the construction of the facility in July 021.

Before its revival, the project had stalled for over 30 years because of administrative constraints.
The facility boasts a capacity of 350 beds and state-of-the-art equipment.
This facility is the first of its kind in Eastern Africa, and is fully equipped to offer pediatric referral services.
Kenyatta National Hospital will manage Mama Margaret Kenyatta Children Hospital.
Uhuru made an extensive tour of the new health facility flanked by the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, PS Health Susan Mochache, Nairobi Governor Anne Kanan, NMS director Mohamed Badi among other leaders.
It is expected to serve residents of Mathare, Huruma, Kariobangi and areas nearby.
Among the services that will be offered by the new facility include out-patient, in-patient, maternity, diagnostics, special clinics, intensive care unit services, dialysis, mortuary, accident and emergency services.
The hospital is one of the 24 health facilities which Uhuru directed NMS Director-General Lt. Gen. Mohamed Badi to build in Nairobi.
Uhuru pointed out that since the work on the 24 health facilities started, 18 of them have been completed and have served more than 4 million residents of informal settlements in Nairobi County.
“This shows that the efforts we have put in improving public hospitals are bearing fruits,” Uhuru said.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the opening of the hospital is a culmination of the President’s directive to take quality health services closer to citizens through the Universal Health Coverage.
Lt. Gen. Badi thanked President Kenyatta for his support, saying it has ensured NMS implement several projects that have benefitted wananchi especially in the informal settlements.
