Atheists in Kenya Society has appealed to the public to help them raise Sh100,000 to help its president Harrison Mumia in a court case against Central Bank of Kenya.

According to the society, the amount is needed for legal fees for Mumia who intends to sue his former employer, CBK, in 2019 for unlawful dismissal to the tune of Sh33 million.

The openly atheist president claims that he was sacked by the central bank for practicing atheism openly but the bank is said to have fired him over a series of political tweets he posted.

“Please help our President Harrison Mumia raise KShs 100,000/= (USD 1000) LEGAL FEES. In 2019, @harrisonmumia sued Central Bank of Kenya, his former employer for unlawful dismissal. He was dismissed for his public atheism,” the society tweeted.

Back in 2019, Mumia dismissed reports that he had been sacked by the regulator of banks in Kenya on grounds of gross misconduct.

CBK originally suspended Mumia from his position in the Information Technology department on half pay for a period of three months in February 2018 through a show cause letter.

The regulator accused the atheist of causing reputational risk and embarrassing the bank and later issued him with a termination letter in June 2018 and gave him 14 days to appeal.

By Thursday, Mumia had only managed to raise Sh30,000 through the paybill number the society had opened.
