Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has renamed Mathare-Korogocho Level 5 Hospital to Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital.

This is in honour of Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital is located in Mathare North.
According to NMS boss Mohamed Badi, the hospital will begin attending to patients this week after months of waiting.

The official commissioning of the facility will come later in December.
The facility is said to be the biggest hospital in terms of its capacity.
It has a capacity of 350 beds and this makes it the biggest facility under Nairobi County Government’s management.
Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital is located in Mathare North.
The construction of the facility that started in 1990 stalled for years before NMS was charged with the responsibility of ensuring its completion.
"This hospital had stalled for years but will in a week’s time open its doors to the public awaiting its commissioning," Badi said.

Upon its official commissioning, the facility will also be the first county referral hospital under Nairobi County’s management.
The five-storey facility will have in-patient wards, a kidney dialysis centre, an ICU, burn units, theatres and an around the clock pharmacy.
One floor in the facility will be set aside as an emergency floor for boda boda riders injured while in the line of their jobs.
The hospital will also reduce the patients' traffic especially the walk-in patients at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
NMS Director of Health Services Dr Ouma Oluga urged members of the public to take advantage of the specialised healthcare services available for free or at reduced rates in the facilities.
"We call on the public to take advantage of the specialised health care services available for free or at subsidised rates in these facilities," Oluga said.
A population of approximately 50,000 people living within Mathare will benefit from the hospital and its services.
