Three police officers have been arrested in connection to the mysterious escape of self-confessed serial killer Masten Wanjala from police custody.
The three officers, namely Philip Mbithi (Inspector), constables Boniface Mutuma and Precious Mwende are currently in custody.
Their colleagues from the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations' office arrested them and they are expected in court where they will be charged with aiding escape from lawful custody and neglect of official duty contrary to sections 124 and 128 of the Penal code, respectively.
The officers who were on duty at the time of his disappearance said they were oblivious to how he escaped, as there was no evidence of breakage in the cell.
Masten Wanjala who escaped from Jogoo Road Police station would have appeared in court on Wednesday over the murders of at least 14 children.

The police officers who were looking for the serial killer say they noticed he had disappeared during the morning roll call at around 7 am.
He was last seen between 6 pm and 7 pm having dinner together with other inmates.
Francis Kamau, Buruburu sub-county Police Commander said the suspect escaped on Tuesday night at dinnertime or immediately after when a power blackout materialized at around 3 pm to 8 pm.
