ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga has said he has no regrets in implementing the eviction in Mau Forest in 2013 while serving as Prime Minister.
Raila said he was only implementing a decision that had been approved by both the cabinet and the National Assembly.
“I have no regret on the Mau issue. I did not target anyone. It was for the benefit of all Kenyans. It was a decision of the government,” Raila said.
The former Prime Minister also said he was impressed by the efforts that went a long way in saving water catchment areas for the benefit of all Kenyans, especially area residents.
According to Raila, the recommendations of a task force that reviewed the status of water catchment areas across Kenya was implemented by President Mwai Kibaki's cabinet.

The same task force, he indicated, also reviewed other water catchment areas, including Mount Kenya, Aberdares, Mount Elgon and Cherangany.
“It was decided that the catchments be protected so that we reduce desertification. They had been invaded by squatters who were cutting trees, destroying the natural habitat,” he said.
The ODM Party Leader said the task force toured Mau Forest and spoke to area residents before compiling a report which was subsequently approved by the cabinet for action.
He expressed his joy that Kenyans had experienced a difference as the amount of rainfall received had increased and animals were also getting enough pasture due to his actions.
“The rains have improved. Animals that were suffering are now getting sufficient supplies,” he added.
The Mau evictions cost Raila the Rift Valley vote in 2013 after opponents led by then Eldoret North MP William Ruto rallied the region against him accusing him of turning against them after they overwhelmingly voted for him in the hotly contested 2007 General Election.
