Police on Monday gunned down a suspected hardcore criminal while two of his accomplices escaped with gunshot wounds following a fierce gun battle.

The incident happened on Sunday at Harmony, an Eastlands estate within Kariobangi, Nairobi.

The Dandora based detectives responded to a distress call raised by residents alerting them of the wanton criminal operations of the gang after attacking the residents and relieving them of their belongings.

The detectives swung into action just in time to happen in on the gang waylaying a lady who was on her way home.

On realizing the law enforcement officers had cornered them, the gang challenged the police officer to a gun battle and opened fire.

The fast advancing officers had no choice but to quickly return fire to the gang that had already realized that they were on a losing trail and make a speedy pullout from the scene.

One suspect stopped a bullet from the officer’s weapon and lost his life as his accomplices took a dive into a sewer system and swam towards Njiru to escape with their dear lives albeit with gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, a team of officers escorted the gang’s last victim home under tight security and as luck would have it, she did not sustain any injuries during the ordeal apart from the shock.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers and police commanders from Buruburu Police Division visited the scene. The crime scene detectives processed the scene.

However, the crime scene detectives could not identify the fallen miscreant immediately, as they did not retrieve any identification documents from him.
