The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) disagree with the plea to exhume the bodies of the Kianjokoma brothers.

The two have said that exhuming the bodies of Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura will cause unfathomable anguish to the family, which is still dealing with the pain of their loss.

The DPP and IPOA stated that as they were filing responses in an urgent court matter in the case against the six police officers who stand accused of murdering the brothers.

This follows an application by the six police officers suspected of killing the brothers to have their bodies exhumed for a fresh autopsy to be conducted.

The accused, through their lawyers, requested for fresh autopsy, arguing that the blunt force trauma cited as the cause of the brothers’ death may have resulted from their fall off a moving police vehicle.

They alleged the brothers died after jumping out of the police vehicle.

However, the investigating officer’s report indicates that the six police officers had assaulted two young men.

The six officers will appear in court on Thursday to enter a plea in the case.

The court denied their request to have the prosecution hear their case before charging them.
