Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna has announced he has quit the Thirdway Alliance, the party he intended to use to seek the Nairobi Governor seat when Mike Sonko was ousted.
Miguna, in a post on his social media accounts, announced that he officially ceased to be a member of the troubled political party effective from August 12.
“This is to announce my resignation from the Thirdway Alliance KENYA, effective August 12, 2021. I thank the Thirdway Alliance KENYA team, especially Miruru Waweru, Angela Mwikali and Elias Mutuma for their support and commitments to good governance.”
But he ruled out joining the ruling Jubilee, Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA, Raila’s ODM, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC, Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya or Gideon Moi’s KANU.
“NO; I'm not joining UDA-Kenya, The ODM Party, Jubilee Party, ANC Party, Ford Kenya, KANU, or any other personal outfits masquerading as political parties but whose operations are not UNDERGIRDED by a progressive ideology and GENUINE COMMITMENT for TRANSFORMATION. The struggle continues. Viva!”

Miguna is a Canadian attorney, a Barrister and Solicitor based in Toronto but born in Kenya and once served as a senior aide to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga from 2009 to 2011.
He reunited with Raila in the 2017 election before falling out after he swore the ODM leader in as the “People’s President” after Raila challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
Miguna was arrested and deported to Canada in February 2018 after taking part in Raila’s mock swearing-in at Uhuru Park, Nairobi which was attended by thousands of supporters.
His bid to reenter Kenya two weeks after the President and Raila’s infamous handshake proved futile after he was returned to Dubai from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Kenyan officials then maintained Miguna was not a Kenyan citizen after failing to correctly complete his paperwork after he took up Canadian citizenship more than two decades ago.
