Residents of Lavington area were treated to ugly scenes following a clash between rival factions at the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) offices situated along Gitanga Road in Nairobi on Tuesday morning.

The faceoff between one faction allied to LSK President Nelson Havi another loyal to embattled LSK CEO Mercy Wambua were over the access to the society premises, with each side determined to block the other from entering.

The Havi-led faction is reported to have stormed the offices and changed the locks on Tuesday morning, blocking the Wambua faction from accessing the LSK offices.

Security guards manning the gate were also sent away and the gates locked with huge chains.

However, the Wambua-led faction later forced the gate open and accessed the compound but was unsuccessful in accessing the offices.

They had earlier reported to the Muthangari Police Station on Monday night after finding new guards at the gate and the usual ones dismissed.

"I found strangers who were pretending to man the gate, and I went to report the incident at Muthangari Police Station on Monday night," revealed Wambua.

A contingent of police officers was sent in to quell the high tempers and prevent matters from getting out of hand.

The LSK president questioned the presence of the police officers arguing that LSK was not a state agency terming it harassment.

"This is harassment. They do not want us to perform our duties as LSK. It is as simple as that," said Havi.

Havi and Wambua have been going at each other's throat since Havi assumed office after winning the February 2020 LSK elections and immediately alleged that Wambua was involved in the embezzlement of the society funds, claims she has dismissed.

Things escalated on July 12 when Wambua accused the LSK president of assaulting her after she tried to join an LSK council meeting.
