The family of Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney is in mourning after their father was hit and killed by a boda boda rider in Kapsabet on Tuesday.

74-year-old Mzee Edward Kiprotich Karoney was hit by the motorcyclist while he was crossing the Kapsabet-Eldoret highway and was pronounced dead on arrival at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

Mzee Karoney is reported to have parked his vehicle in a nearby shade and was crossing the road to attend a meeting when the speeding motorbike rider knocked him to the ground causing his death.

Other political leaders led by Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang visited the hospital to condole with the family as Nandi county police commander Samson Ole Kinne assured the accident is being probed.

Mzee Karoney was a well-known tea farmer in Kaptel and Kamobo areas of Nandi County.
