The Kenyan anti-vaccine doctor Dr. Stephen Karanja has died of Covid-19. He passed away while he was receiving treatment on 29th April 2020.
The obstetrician-gynecologist and chairperson of the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association was earlier admitted at The Mater Hospital on 20th April 2021.
The person in charge of the Catholic Health Commission; Jacinta Mutegi confirmed reports of his death.
Karanja who had gained popularity as the anti-vaccine doctor recently clashed with the catholic church over the safety of the Covid-19 vaccine.
He opposed the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine and dismissed it as being totally unnecessary.

"There are drugs that have been repurposed and used effectively to treat Covid-19," adding that "we also know that vaccination for this disease is totally unnecessary, making the motivation suspect." Dr. Karanja said in a letter dated 3rd March 2021.
Karanja advocated for alternative treatments for Covid-19 and proposed taking a combination of drugs such as Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine and steam inhalation. However, his preferred methods were not WHO-approved.
The doctor who was never shy of controversy had once asked the government to stop the rollout of the tetanus vaccine back in 2014, claiming that it was a birth control plot that was targeted at women of childbearing age.
The pro-life activists also strongly opposed the Susan Kihika Abortion bill and called for its immediate withdrawal.
