High Court has barred blogger Robert Alai from publishing words said to be defamatory against Kesses MP Shwarup Mishra, who is also the Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre Limited founder.

In a ruling on Thursday, Justice Msagha Mbogholi granted Mediheal temporary orders in a case in which it accuses Alai of making false claims that the hospital is a conduit for illegal trafficking of human organs.

The matter has been certified as urgent and Mediheal and Mishra ordered to serve Alai with the suit papers before a hearing slated for April 22.

Mishra argued Alai’s claims on Facebook and Twitter have seriously soiled the hospital’s image and resulted in panic among existing and potential patients and other stakeholders.

The Jubilee MP said the claims the said posts have strained the relationship between Mediheal and partners, investors, financiers and donors causing it lose business.

He further argued that the offending posts are accessible to Alai’s more than 1.6 million followers on Twitter and more than 546,000 on Facebook added to retweets and shares.

Mishra denied smuggling or trafficking in human body organs in his Mediheal Hospital and Fertlity Center Limited which has branches in Kenya, Ethiopia as well as Rwanda.

He, through lawyer Guandaru Thuita, accused the blogger of sensationally and maliciously publishing the human trafficking and staff oppression claims on his social media accounts.

However, Alai has criticised the decision by the court and the complainant on his Twitter handle.
