President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday officially launched a Small Arms Factory in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
He said, through local production of weaponry, Kenya will improve self-reliance, domestic innovation and strengthen local manufacturing, while offering decent jobs to the youth.

Uhuru said the arms factory, which is part of the National Security Industries Network, is in line with the Manufacturing Pillar of his government’s Big Four Agenda and Vision 2030.

He revealed that the new factory was constructed at a cost of Sh4 billion and has an annual single-shift manufacturing capacity of 12,000 assault rifles.

Uhuru also revealed that 60 per cent of components being used in the arms manufacturing process are being sourced and manufactured locally.
