President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday mocked former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, saying he failed to run the city and was only seen at events wearing fancy sun-glasses and bragging about his work.
Kenyatta, who spoke at Sagana State Lodge on Sunday while meeting youth leaders from Central Kenya, said he unsuccessfully tried to help Sonko govern before he was unceremoniously impeached.
“I tried to help my friend the other day, ati yeye ni Kijana. I told him if you need help, I will bring someone to help you. Wewe kazi yako ni kuvaa goggles and then telling people, look at the job I’m doing,” said the president.
President Kenyatta indicated that Sonko turned away his helping hand since he wanted to continue enjoying perks that came with governorship and was responsible for what befell him.
“I told him if he was unable to deliver I would bring him someone to help, but he was reluctant because he wanted to continue ‘eating money’, then I told him, ‘if that’s it, then bye’,” he said.

He said he was content with the direction Nairobi is taking despite daily insults by Sonko.
“He has now resorted to insulting me. I have no problem with that because everyone can see work in Nairobi headed in the right direction,” Kenyatta added.
In a series of social media posts, Sonko appeared to have flown off the handle, accusing the head of state of wanton failure.
