Police in Kasarani area of Nairobi County are hunting down an unidentified man who is reported to have killed his ex-girlfriend and set her body ablaze on Thursday afternoon.

The body of one Margaret Muchemi was found tied to her bed by her neighbours who had responded to an inferno that was engulfing the house of the 34-year-old woman.

The woman resided in Njiru in Kasarani Sub-County, ran a private clinic in Mwiki and has left behind a four-year-old child.

She reportedly had a disagreement with her boyfriend over cash he had reportedly lent her.

A report by two house helps of the deceased indicated their boss, on arrival of the suspect at around 8am, gave them time off, saying he wanted some privacy as they resolved the matter.

“She was told to go and buy meat and not to come back in the house until she was called because she wanted to talk to her boyfriend in private,” said Kayole OCPD Paul Wambugu.

Later in the afternoon, the house was engulfed in flames as neighours fought to extinguish the fire but they were unable to salvage the woman and her belongings.

Police collected her burnt body at 4pm Thursday after the fire was put out and moved it to City Mortuary to await an autopsy.

Police are looking for her boyfriend who went missing immediately after the incident as they try to piece together whether he murdered her over the debt or it was a case of love gone sour.

Police say detectives based at Kayole are working jointly with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) in the launched manhunt.
