Things have in the recent days gotten uglier in Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Party (ODM) as top elected MPs go at attack each other viciously on social media platforms.

Trouble started when Embakasi East MP Babu Owino lamented bitterly accusing the Orange party of shortchanging him in the selection of ODM MPs to head key parliamentary committees.

“@TheODMparty With Due respect why should Hon John Mbadi come down from the position of Majority leader to PAC chair which was reserved for me. This will not happen!!!Over my dead body…Young people must get their space.. it’s now or never. He has been rewarded through Nomination,” Babu posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Moments later he followed up the post with another bitterly complaining about the ODM youth, including himself, being betrayed and blackmailed by unnamed forces in the party.

“ODM Party, so many youth and myself sacrificed a lot and used our resources in the party over the years, our pay is betrayal and blackmail. It is OK. Tomorrow is another day,” posted Babu on Twitter on Thursday at 5:12pm.

His tweet, which gave a sneak preview of the bitter rivalries and fights in the opposition outfit, caused a storm online with many wondering if Raila is losing grip of the Orange party.

Babu’s lamentation was followed by an immediate rebuttal by the recently re-elected Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma, who blasted the second term MP for being entitled in the party.

“Baba @RailaOdinga has enabled you to serve 2 terms as Member of Parliament just for shouting "tialala, tibim"!What more does Baba owe you kid bro!,” posed Kaluma to Babu.

Sources in the party say big names have been angling for top positions in ODM with an eye of taking over from party leader Raila after he lost the presidential poll on an Azimio ticket.

The sources also say Raila, who bashed the Supreme Court for dismissing his petition against President William Ruto’s win, is making frantic efforts to reconcile the warring factions amid concerns over his alleged waning influence in the party.
