A student from Nyang’ori Boys secondary school in Vihiga is now facing murder charges after he reportedly assaulted the school’s security guard on Sunday resulting in his death.

The 18-year-old Form 3 student had reportedly become unruly and attacked other students using a metal rod prompting the school guard identified as Willy Mukonambi to intervene.

It is then that the student turned on the guard and hit him on the head repeatedly using the metal rod as the other astounded students watched helplessly.

The man was rescued by his colleagues who together with the school nurse rushed the guard to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu in critical condition.

Sadly, the guard succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Kisumu hospital.

The teen student suspect was placed in police custody and will be charged with murder for violating Section 203, as read with section 204, of the penal code once a probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is completed.
