Chaos on Monday rocked a Special General Meeting convened by Law Society of Kenya (LSK) after the lawyers’ body president Nelson Havi tried to block some members from voting virtually.
Trouble started when Havi sought to have only those who were attending the meeting physically cast their ballot while locking out almost 3,000 members attending the SGM virtually.
Some LSK Council members accused the society president of being dictatorial in handling the crucial meeting as reports emerged that there was a ploy by some members to remove him from office.
Havi later dismissed the motion for his impeachment, terming it time-barred while also suggesting that the mover, Gad Aguko, failed to defend it during the Special General Meeting.
The actions by Havi at the meeting are reportedly to preempt actions members would supposedly take against fearing any censure against him would probably sail through.

According to reports, majority of those who attended the SGM by LSK at its offices located in Gitanga road, Nairobi are allied to Havi.
Members were also divided on a vote on Havi’s proposal to hire Parker Randall to audit the society’s accounts amid claims by some members that he had a close relationship with the firm.
The divisions caused a stalemate during the heated session amid growing criticism of Havi’s stewardship of the legal body.
This also comes as as LSK has been divided over Havi's attempts to remove Council CEO Mercy Wambua from office despite a majority of Council members opposing the move even as the court in December barred the president from holding a meeting to replace her.
