Three members of a family that brews and sells the illicit drink called chang’aa at Arorwet Village in Kuresoi Sub-County are in custody for the heinous murder of their customer over a Sh25,500 dispute.

The incident took place on Monday when the deceased, a 39-year-old man identified as Stanley Sing’oei visited his local joint for a taste of the local brew to commemorate the resurrection of the son of God.

Once Sing’oei got to the local brewery, he ordered a glass of the potent stuff and did a ‘bottom up’ just to bring himself up to speed before ordering another glass.

He was in the company of the shebeen queen, identified as Sheila Langat, exchanging the good tidings of the Easter season while in his second class.

However, Sing’oei got startled when he reached for his pocket and felt nothing but emptiness in a place he had earlier kept his Sh23,500.

At that moment, it was only logical for the deceased to inquire from Sheila if she had taken his money.

That was a heavy accusation levelled against Sheila that she did not or pretended not to have taken kindly.

A confrontation ensued between Sing’oei and Sheila that attracted the attention of Sheila’s husband Mr Charles Langat and the couple’s 17-year-old son. The two armed with a machete descended on Sing’oei, hacking him to death.

The commotion drew the attention of the villagers and among the first responder who rushed to the scene was the area assistant chief Hillary Rotich who came and found Sing’oei’s lifeless body sprawled on the ground with deep cut wounds on his head in a pool of his own blood.

Rotich immediately alerted the Kuresoi Police Station-based detectives who rushed to the scene of the crime immediately and arrested the three suspects.

The officers also recovered the murder weapon (machete) which was taken in as an exhibit.

Langat, his wife and his son are in custody, being processed for murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
