ODM leader Raila Odinga has promised to uplift the lives of farmers in Trans Nzoia County if elected president in the coming general election.

Addressing his supporters at Serwo, Trans Nzoia County, Raila said despite the endless effort made by farmers in the region to produce maize to feed the nation, they still earn peanuts that cannot sustain their families.

Raila noted that the high price of farm inputs has made lives difficult for farmers, promising to subsidize once he becomes the president.

According to the former prime minister, the maize sector has been interfered with by cartels who convince farmers to sell their produce at a low price, only for them to sell the maize later at a good price.

''Everywhere in the world, may it be America or Europe, farming is always a subsidized business. The government has the responsibility to reduce the price of farm input so that farmers can manage to buy and have enough food, we will do that in our government,'' Raila said.

To what looked like questioning DP Ruto's source of money, Raila said his government will seal all loopholes to ensure that no one steals government resources.

According to Raila, Ruto spends Sh100 million a month yet his salary is Sh2 million per month, something that he needs to explain to the public.

The ODM leader also promised to bring a social healthcare fund, which will intend to support those Kenyans unable to pay hospital bills.

He added that if the Fund was implemented in America, Europe, Malawi, Namibia, and Egypt, the same initiative can be introduced here to cushion Kenyans from the high expenses of hospital bills.

Odinga insisted that he will provide Sh6000 monthly to Kenyans to cater to their daily needs.

He was accompanied by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, and other leaders from the region.

He will hold a mega rally at Kitale Town and Kiminini after making several visits to other regions of Trans Nzoia County.
