Police officers in Busia have arrested eight individuals suspected to be connected to the Busia incident where Deputy President William Ruto’s motorcade was attacked.

This follows the Interior CS's directive to the regional team to team there to look for everyone who was involved in the unfortunate incident.

The eight are part of a rowdy group that blocked traffic at the Korinda area and indiscriminately pelted stones at Ruto’s motorcade and other motorists as well.

Their attack resulted in injuries and destruction to property.

The octet is currently being held at Busia police station pending investigations before being arraigned in court.

They will answer to charges of malicious damage to properties, incitement to violence, creating disturbance among others.

The following are the names of the suspects arrested in connection to the Saturday incident:

  2. Fredrick Okoth
  3. Friday Ouma
  4. George Odongo
  5. Michael Omondi Alwando
  6. Moses Oridi
  7. Reuben Barasa
  8. Wejuli Shalmin

Police are urging the public to shun acts of violence especially during this time when the country is nearing the electioneering phase.

The National Police Service has warned that it will take firm and decisive action against perpetrators of election-related crimes regardless of their age or social status.
