President Uhuru Kenyatta is slated to fly out of Nairobi to London to co-host the Global Education Summit (GPE) together with the UK on 28-29 July.

UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott confirmed the event and hosting President Kenyatta through her social media pages on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to be welcoming President Kenyatta to the UK to co-host this vital summit,” said Marriott.

The GPE will avail an opportunity for the international community to converge in London to push for quality education for all children in all countries across the world.

The crucial summit will employ a hybrid format, where participants will attend live sessions on the GPE virtual platform as well as small in-person event scheduled for London.

GPE stipulates that quality education provides all learners with capacities they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and improve personal wellbeing.

Uhuru last month lauded UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for pledging about Sh65 billion towards the GPE campaign, saying it marked a vital day for the campaign for education.

“Kenya is grateful to PM Boris Johnson and the UK for leading the call to fund Education and for rallying world leaders at the G7 and beyond to invest more in education as a way of leading the global recovery and building back better from the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

He said the education funding summit seeks to raise $5 billion to ensure all children, especially those in developing countries, have unbiased access to quality education.
