Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation has launched a number of projects meant to uplift the standards of education in Siaya and Kisumu Counties to the tune of Sh20.7 million.

The initiatives, aimed at expanding learning opportunities and improving school infrastructure, were unveiled at ceremonies officiated by Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi.

The Foundation’s investments have brought vital new resources to three schools in the region. Ong’eche Secondary School in Nyando Constituency is now home to a Sh5 million computer laboratory, a facility that is already inspiring change in the community.

Dr Ida Odinga Girls Secondary School has benefitted from a Sh5 million project that includes twin science laboratories and an additional classroom.

Rangala Boys Secondary School, on the other hand, received a modern school bus worth Sh10.7 million, ensuring reliable transport for academic and extracurricular activities.

Speaking while commissioning the education projects, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi praised KPC Foundation for its sustained efforts to bridge educational gaps.

He pointed out that the computer lab at Ong’eche is already reshaping learning experiences.

"The computer laboratory at Ong’eche Secondary School is already making an impact. It has led to increased student enrolment and is opening doors to modern learning opportunities," Wandayi stated.

"For the first time, students at Ong’eche Secondary will sit for computer studies examinations in 2026, building skills that are vital in today’s digital economy."

"The inclusion of junior secondary students from neighbouring schools further extends the reach of this facility, demonstrating the power of shared resources," he added.

The provision of the school bus, he noted, will have far-reaching benefits for Rangala Boys students.

“The Rangala Boys Secondary School bus will ensure that students can participate fully in academic, sporting, and co-curricular activities. Reliable transportation is an essential part of enabling students to access holistic learning experiences that develop character and skills beyond the classroom,” he remarked.

KPC Foundation’s Strategy and Compliance General Manager, Zilper Abong’o, emphasised the organisation’s deep commitment to long-term educational development.

“In the recent past, KPC Foundation has invested a cumulative Sh46,700,000 in education infrastructure in this region,” she said, underscoring the scale of support that learners in Nyanza have received.

Abong’o further explained how KPC Foundation’s work complements national goals.

“KPC Foundation’s education initiatives align with the national government’s goals to increase secondary school enrolment and improve quality school completion rates across Kenya,” she explained.

"We believe that education is a powerful tool for change and these projects reflect our commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of where they come from has access to a conducive learning environment."

These latest efforts bring to eight the total number of major education projects KPC Foundation has delivered in Nyanza.

Previous projects include construction of a dormitory and laboratory at Simbi Secondary School (Sh8 million), an administration and ablution block at Kowuor Primary School (Sh5 million), a multi-purpose hall at St. Mary’s Secondary School (Sh5 million), classrooms at Lambwe Special School (Sh3 million), and a 100-capacity dormitory at Siburi Mixed Secondary School (Sh5 million).

The Foundation’s impact has also extended beyond the region.

Only last week, it commissioned a Sh5 million dormitory at Cardinal Otunga Girls’ High School in Bungoma County, reaffirming its commitment to educational equity countrywide.

KPC Foundation’s projects fall within its broader Corporate Social Investment framework, built around Education, Health, and Water and Sanitation.

The Foundation continues to play an important role in addressing pressing social challenges, with a focus on long-term, sustainable change that uplifts communities across Kenya.
